Aftercare

After getting a tooth gem, proper aftercare is important to keep it secure and avoid damaging your tooth. Here’s what you should do:

    • Avoid eating hard or crunchy foods (chips, nuts, ice).

    • Stick to soft foods like yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes.

    • Do not touch or pick at the gem with your fingers or tongue.

    • Avoid very hot or sticky foods (like caramel or gum).

    • Brush your teeth gently twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush.

    • Avoid brushing directly over the gem aggressively.

    • Floss normally, but be careful around the gem area.

    • Use a non-alcoholic mouthwash if possible.

    • Try not to bite directly into hard foods (like apples); cut them into smaller pieces.

    • Avoid habits like:

      • Nail biting

      • Chewing pens

      • Opening packages with your teeth

    • Slight sensitivity is normal at first.

    • Contact your dentist if you notice:

      • Pain or throbbing

      • The gem feels loose

      • Swelling or signs of infection

    • Typically 6 months to a few years, depending on care and placement.

    • They should be removed by a dental professional, not pulled off at home
